When can you lay turf?

All year round. Frost will not kill turf. As a general guide, the warmer it is the quicker the rooting, but allow for the application of more water in higher temperatures. The Lawn Expert book suggests spring and autumn as the best times to lay turf. The Amateur Gardening magazine suggests November to February. The fact is that turf can be supplied and laid generally all year round, with a few adverse exceptions.  If it is cold, expect slower rooting, if it is warm allow for larger quantities of water to be applied.
